Peter Howell composed and performed music for Television and Radio for over twenty eight years, both as a staff composer for the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and as a freelance. His credits include Jonathan Miller's Body in Question series, many documentary programmes for BBC2 and Channel 4, as well as a notable contribution to Science Fiction music in Dr Who; his arrangement of the Dr Who theme is often played and has been released on many CD compilations.

Other credits include: The Real Jurassic Park, Kaboum, and The Men with Nine Lives, all for Channel 4; children's programmes such as the ten part drama Spywatch, and Zig Zag's Ancient Greece series, as well as the complete Narnia cycle for Radio 4. His title music for the award winning children's documentary series The Low Down has been running for many years.

More recent work includes title and incidental music for the Michael Palin series, Full Circle; the popular Channel 4 series, The Tourist Trap; and the ITN documentary on the demise of Glen Hoddle, ‘Hoddle and the Healer’. Latterly he has provided scores for the acclaimed series on the origins of the Industrial Revolution, ‘The Day the World Took Off’, as well as Natural History Documentaries for Discovery and National Geographic.

His writing credits cover scriptwriting for radio (Inferno Revisiting and Fragments from Childhood), and a variety of scripts for the theatre.
